But, it could be interesting to have a Exorcism ritual that actually works like an Evocation, and requires doing some pretty nasty stuff to work. You get rid of the demon, but now Mater Tenebrarum has decided to take a personal interest in you.

And it might come in handy for me soon – I’ll be running a scenario where finding or reconstructing an exorcism ritual to get rid of a demon will be an important plot point, and it’ll be good to have some more flavour for it.

Out of curiosity, would an exorcism spell/ritual count as a Fascination by the Ghastly Affair magic rules? Or a reverse Evocation?

That approach will definitely help out when generating random grimoires or mad science contraptions – no more rerolling when a specific transformation doesn’t match the theme.

Thank you! Right now I’m revamping the Preternatural Effects for the future revision of Ghastly Affair. In fact, the Bogeyman is a side-project necessitated by one of the new Preternatural Effects – “Inflict a Monstrous Curse”. This new Effect combines the old “Create Werewolf” and “Create Vampyre” Effects, and also allows the User to condemn a deserving target (or even themselves) to become a Beast Man, a Dragon, a Restless Specter (from the Ghastly Companion to Gothic Icons) – or a Bogeyman.
